WHAT ABOUT WHAT?

If you've come here looking for more work after visiting our website you're crazy....just kidding, you've come to the right place! This is a place where Mike and I can showcase some of our most recent work--if you're here and the last post is from months ago just remember that our priority is always keeping up with our event editing and getting images to our clients on time! Sadly, the blog, while we love it, doesn't always make it to the top of the to-do list. Rest assured, we'll be back, we always are! In the meantime feel free to get in touch via our contact form!

The Wedding film from Natalie and Tim’s Boston wedding at the Westin Copley Place!

Two months off from the blog means we are slammin’ which is good for us and a little radio silent for you…but we’re breaking that silence to bring you a pretty sweet proposal that Mike shot last week on the 4th of July.  The week before I was visiting some friends in upstate NY with the kids, we had just got some ice cream, there had been so much rain that the roads we were using were in varying states of disarray, and my phone rang.  I answered and on the other end of the phone was the sweetest set of parents you will ever talk to–helps that they are southern and their Louisiana accent charmed me instantly, but I sat in the front seat, ice cream melting in my hands, and listened to how excited they were to help their future son-in-law propose to their unsuspecting daughter on the 4th of July in Boston and they were hoping we were available to capture it all!  We chatted a bit and I called Mike who was at our house and filled him in on the details that I knew so far and his wheels started to turn–he talked some more to Jack and Becky (Alicia’s parents) about the plan, where they were staying, the best place to see the fireworks, etc…and the Museum of Science came in hands down as the best spot to make it all happen.  So on the 3rd when the family was in town Jack and Kyle were able to head over to the MoS to meet up with Mike and game plan for the following night.  They were primed and ready to go…

On the 4th Mike met up with our very good friend and fellow photographer Rich Pizzuti and they hopped on a train to Boston.  It was super hot, super crowded, and very very exciting as Boston tends to be on the 4th.  Kyle and Jack went over again to the MoS to stake out a spot for prime firework watching–really will you marry me, down on one knee, proposal spot–and the four men all decided that the deck might not be the most secluded, romantic, perfect spot to make this all happened and on the fly came up with a plan B (which was kind of an original plan A before the other roof deck plan A came into play)…BUT, long story longer, it meant that Rich and Mike were no longer really hidden in a sea of people and lost a bit of anonymity in the whole matter…so there were some funny introductions and pretend small talk when they all were waiting for the fireworks to happen and thankfully Alicia remained unaware of the whole plot to capture Kyle’s proposal!

In addition to the photos, keep scrolling because Mike decided to set up a tripod cam to capture some footage of the proposal as well and it might be my favorite part…don’t get me wrong, I love the images, the fireworks, the light, the emotion…but there is something tear inducing about watching them interact, watching Alicia in a bit of shock, and if you watch closely when Kyle gives her the ring she takes whatever ring had been on that finger off and tosses it into the harbor–that finger certainly has a new resident in place!  She said yes, my husband was probably the most giddy I have seen him in a long time calling me after the shoot and gushing about how fun it was, how cute they are, and I’m sure it was just a whole lot of their happiness rubbing off on everyone!  Stay tuned to see the gorgeous images from their morning after shoot! 2013-07-10_0001 2013-07-10_0002 2013-07-10_0003 2013-07-10_0004 2013-07-10_0005 2013-07-10_0006 2013-07-10_0007 2013-07-10_0008

4th of July Proposal from MKD Photography on Vimeo.

I am so beyond excited to share our new site with you!  Our last site was finished in December of 2008–5 years ago!  We didn’t actually update it, make changes, or do anything to it from first launch until now, five years later!  It was time…it was a flash site and I’m sure anyone who wanted to see our work on their phone or ipad was as frustrated as we were…the new site (go get your ipad!!) is swipe-able!  You can just pop your finger right on an image and swipe away!  I make no apologies for the finger prints you leave on there once you find this out and go crazy.  It also has some crazy awesome HD features with some gobledy gook called retina display–yep.  We’re cool like that!  Also one of my favorite parts is all of the social media hookup–the tiny Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, etc. bubbles make me smile!  It’s all brand spanking new HTML 5 and I am giddy about how clean it is!  Back in 2005 when we started our business we first started throwing names out there…we decided on MKD Photography and while I don’t think the initials were the wisest business maneuver (we still get calls that go like this….is this MDK, I mean MK or is it MKD photography?), but in those  very early meetings we also brainstormed my favorite part of our branding–the bow tie!  We talked about rebranding with the website upgrade and both agreed that the bow tie is who we are!  We had so much fun coming up with a new MKD Films logo and the four icons that link to our weddings, films, a future portrait site, and the blog!

So, go check it out!  Find yourselves in there past brides, call us, future brides, enjoy friends and family 🙂  Putting it together and making it completely our own was a labor of love, and I am so happy to finally share it with the world!  I am also very excited because in order to do more work I decided to opt out of watching Downton Abbey for season 3….my promise to myself was that once the site was live I could catch up…excited to see what everyone was in a frenzy about and I have been very very good at not reading any spoilers so it should be good!  Next up on the docket it finding all of my favorite portrait images for the portrait site coming soon!

As promised, here is the film from Maggie and Joey’s wedding–check back one entry for more words and their images!

June 16, 2012

Maggie and Joey–remember these two amazing people from their super early engagement session?  So much has happened since we shot this wedding…and one of those things is that Maggie and Joey moved into our neighborhood!  So awesome because we always feel a bit like we become a part of the family on your wedding day…and then it’s kind of a let down when we don’t get to do Christmas dinner with everyone–but when you move into our neighborhood we may not invade your home for Christmas dinner, but we will certainly do a cookie exchange and invite you over to go sledding!  Our relationship goes far back with these two with a pretty intricate and complicated spiderweb of amazingly awesome Bentley University Brides…it is sometimes hard for me to keep track of who knows who knows who from where…but there is nothing more fun than continuing on this fun word-of-mouth awesome train that we hopped on! So…where were we?  Oh yes, an amazingly gorgeous weekend out near Syracuse, NY with the ever-talented additions of Benjamin Burrows and Tony Yu of Team Yu Photography to our photo/film team!

If you want to see their film check back tomorrow for another post!
