WHAT ABOUT WHAT?

If you've come here looking for more work after visiting our website you're crazy....just kidding, you've come to the right place! This is a place where Mike and I can showcase some of our most recent work--if you're here and the last post is from months ago just remember that our priority is always keeping up with our event editing and getting images to our clients on time! Sadly, the blog, while we love it, doesn't always make it to the top of the to-do list. Rest assured, we'll be back, we always are! In the meantime feel free to get in touch via our contact form!

I am so beyond excited to share our new site with you!  Our last site was finished in December of 2008–5 years ago!  We didn’t actually update it, make changes, or do anything to it from first launch until now, five years later!  It was time…it was a flash site and I’m sure anyone who wanted to see our work on their phone or ipad was as frustrated as we were…the new site (go get your ipad!!) is swipe-able!  You can just pop your finger right on an image and swipe away!  I make no apologies for the finger prints you leave on there once you find this out and go crazy.  It also has some crazy awesome HD features with some gobledy gook called retina display–yep.  We’re cool like that!  Also one of my favorite parts is all of the social media hookup–the tiny Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, etc. bubbles make me smile!  It’s all brand spanking new HTML 5 and I am giddy about how clean it is!  Back in 2005 when we started our business we first started throwing names out there…we decided on MKD Photography and while I don’t think the initials were the wisest business maneuver (we still get calls that go like this….is this MDK, I mean MK or is it MKD photography?), but in those  very early meetings we also brainstormed my favorite part of our branding–the bow tie!  We talked about rebranding with the website upgrade and both agreed that the bow tie is who we are!  We had so much fun coming up with a new MKD Films logo and the four icons that link to our weddings, films, a future portrait site, and the blog!

So, go check it out!  Find yourselves in there past brides, call us, future brides, enjoy friends and family 🙂  Putting it together and making it completely our own was a labor of love, and I am so happy to finally share it with the world!  I am also very excited because in order to do more work I decided to opt out of watching Downton Abbey for season 3….my promise to myself was that once the site was live I could catch up…excited to see what everyone was in a frenzy about and I have been very very good at not reading any spoilers so it should be good!  Next up on the docket it finding all of my favorite portrait images for the portrait site coming soon!

Baby Sawyer, a set on Flickr.

I don’t know how you all do it…narrow it down and pick pictures. I want to plaster my walls with pictures of the kids! So instead of posting each image I’m just going to post this whole collection as a link to flickr because I was bad at narrowing it down. And…there’s still more that I want to do with this little guy, it’s just finding the time to do it before we’re out of the newborn window which closes around 2 weeks!

I’m still a bit in shock that this little guy is ours to keep.  What an adventure in getting here…such a long year losing three babies, and feeling like I was just going to be pregnant either forever or for nothing if we lost him as well…and then the longest labor ever ending in a perfectly beautiful baby boy.  From water breaking to when he was born it was about 39 hours…but I did it!  No c-section, no stitches…just a perfectly happy little baby boy.  Mike and I are so in love, Emmie and Chase are in love…and judging by Mr. Sawyer’s attitude towards life he’s happy to be here too!  So excited to start this new chapter of life…Mike and I keep looking at each other saying things like…”I can’t believe he’s ours,” and, “I can’t believe how cute he is,” or, “We have three of these little people to take care of? Crazy!”  We took this picture last night at just 5 days old!

I just realized that I haven’t blogged since before Christmas!  That is super crazy!  I have a list of everything that needs to be blogged…but I’ve been feeling pretty gross for about 4 months now.  And it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that means that we have some news to share with clients, friends, family…you know, the whole world out there on the internet.  I feel like it’s only the right thing to do since you were all here this time last year when we lost our sweet baby at 16 weeks (by the way, we found out a month later that he was a boy and we named him Parker)…and so our journey continues.  Being a wedding photographer and a husband and wife team we tried to time things so we would have a baby somewhere not in the middle of the season…and we got pregnant two more times in 2010 and lost both babies at around 6 weeks.  Just when we were going to take a break for a while because man it can get hard losing babies and hopes and dreams…I got pregnant again and realized that sometimes I might think I have all of the control in the world, but really, the fate of our lives, and the twists and turns….they aren’t up to me.  The stars aligned and we didn’t have any weddings booked for the few weeks leading up to the birth and not until 10 days after the due date which is perfect because Mike won’t have to worry about missing the baby’s arrival!

This pregnancy I am nervous, I didn’t really believe that my body could carry a baby anymore…I think we were pretty shocked in general.  We were already booked for the season and Mike and I talked about how it would all work out…we have amazingly talented friends here in the Boston area who are all quite skilled with a camera…they are the photographers we ask to shoot important events for us…we shoot their weddings, we meet with them all the time, we trade leads when we’re already booked and we’re more than 100% confident that they’ll be able to pull us through this summer when I will miss some time for maternity leave…and then I would think, I don’t even know if this baby is going to make it.  Well here we are at 18 weeks today and things are still perfectly normal…progressing fine.  Baby is happy and squirmy and growing and alive and looked perfect on the ultrasound yesterday…so I think I’m going to have to start believing that we may in fact have a baby at the end of this long, long journey.

(I wish we had a better picture, but the baby wouldn’t sit still for his portrait!)

I know this is good news for us, but I also I know it might make some of our brides whose wedding are right after our due date (July 20) a little bit apprehensive…I just wanted to remind you that we really do have an amazing group of friends who are going to help us out…last year when we lost Parker we left a lot of holes in the calendar preparing for him to be here…and we sat around on those weekends with no weddings missing our baby and missing what we love doing most…getting out there and capturing beautiful weddings.  The way the timing worked for this pregnancy, by the time I knew I was pregnant we already had a pretty solid calendar and I realized that was really was for the best–I have the utmost faith that Mike will be able to capture a wedding with another lead photographer and the only one who will be missing out is me.  I’m going to be emailing individual brides with the name of the person who will be shooting with Mike on the day of your wedding so you can add them to your blog reader and start the stalking 🙂  Nothing else has changed…we still promise unbelievable wedding pictures…the only sad one is me who doesn’t get to be in two places at once–but the good news is I still get to relive the wedding day via the images, the slide show, and the albums that I get to create!

Emmie and Chase are beyond excited!!

Sometimes we get so busy that we can’t keep everything up in the air and something falls…sorry blog, how is your face?  We haven’t fallen off the face of the planet, we’re just trying to help everyone squeeze all of the last ounces of juice out of the 2010 season before the leaves fall off the trees, the lights goes to hang out in the southern hemisphere, and the cold rolls in…so I promise to come back (I actually forgot how to get to the admin site for this blog for a second…how sad is that!?)

Rest assured we are busy doing this:

We will soon be bringing you more of this:
